The first of my fictitious photos to
be posted here and by far my greatest. During the summer of 2004,
Louisville was abuzz about Cameron Crowe and how the director was filming
"Elizabethtown" with Orlando Bloom and Kirsten Dunst in the
area. Our theatre was actually host to Crowe and his production crew
many mornings (whenever they needed to screen some dailies). By
night, the actors in the film frequently attended our theatre since we're
excessively slow (business wise) during the week.
The very first night Orlando and
Kirsten came up, it was like a sideshow for the staff. Everyone was
craning their necks to catch a glimpse of the two. Later, after the
stars had gone, I brought my digital camera down onto the floor and showed
off this shot to everyone. They were amazed and even a little
shocked that I'd managed to get a shot of the popular actor with
Sean. And no point did they stop to realize that the clothes Orlando
was wearing in the photo were nothing like those he was in while in
attendance at the theatre.
The truth was that I had snapped the
shot of Sean looking dumbfounded that night while Orlando was in his
film. I snuck the camera upstairs, and created this fabrication out
of the picture I had just taken and a shot I found of Orlando
online. I then uploaded it to my digital camera, altered the date
and voila! A picture that everyone bought. Only Dave was observant
enough to note the difference in dress, but he never said anything since
he questioned his own memory.
As the days went on, everyone was
impressed with the photo. Employees sent it to their friends and
relatives. The general manager sent it to our booking agency in California
and the company president. It spun out of control pretty quick.
Everybody wanted to brag about how we'd been host to some of the hottest
stars of the summer. They weren't lying, but the illustration that
accompanied their stories was false. Eventually, I cracked and
fessed up to the fake. I was hated briefly, but it was soon laughed
off. I'm now awaiting their retribution.
